Script

Way back in 2004, the activities of the ladies were an inspiration behind a sitcom proposal which we presented to the BBC as part of the BBC Talent competition.

We didn’t get short-listed – not much of a surprise given we were fairly sure what BBC3 were actually after – but we did make it into the final 10% of entries and apparently the judges were, in their words, “extremely impressed”.

So what now?

Well we’ve finished off the script for episode one (several times) and have finished the outline for the whole series with a view to touting it around a few places.

How does the script compare to the website?

Well, it’s visual for a start. The series as a whole parallels only a couple of chapters from the site and treats them very differently. The opening is completely different taking place at a funeral of someone whose respective personalities have been different members of the two organisations. The series concerns itself with trying to fulfill the terms of her will to win an inheritance.

Anything else?

There’s a fairly ecletic soundtrack. So far it contains the following:

  • Miss Marple Theme – Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley
  • Anarchy in the UK – The Sex Pistols
  • The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You – Bryan Adams
  • Making Your Mind Up – Bucks Fizz
  • Smack My Bitch Up – The Prodigy
  • Teddy Bear’s Picnic – Jay Wilbur
  • Time Flies By When You’re The Driver of a Train – Gordon Murray
  • The Locomotion – Kylie Minogue
  • What an Atmosphere – Russ Abbot
  • Waterloo – Abba
  • Slow – Kylie Minogue

We’re kind of hoping it’ll get made, to be honest. It’s been in development hell for ages.

A two page excerpt of the script will shortly be made available from this page. Check back in a week or so!

  • Reducing the Food Bill

Mrs Saxon offers some excellent advice for people on a budget: “it is always worthwhile rummaging through food bins at major supermarkets. There is a treasure trove of food to be found, as well as the occasional rat.”
