Muffins, Museums and Marijuana

Subject: Home Sweet Home!

I think both of us have been fortunate during the whole affair to have met with some extremely helpful and sociable young men. I have often felt that the younger generation are unfairly maligned but at times their readiness to assist those they had met was extremely impressive.

I remember being sure the unsanitary conditions would likely result in food poisoning and on the second night my fears were confirmed when one of my neighbours was suddenly taken ill. I was aroused from my slumbers by the most fearful moaning from next door and dutifully sallied forth with a bottle of J. Collis-Brownes.

But it seemed the poor boy had already been joined by one of his own party who had the situation well under control – in fact he was adamant his friend was being seen to.

Certainly the boy quietened down quite quickly and was most apologetic the following morning. I assured him that it was fine and I had been in a similar position myself on a couple of occasions, and I am gratified to report that I rather went up in his estimation at that point.

I am also glad to report that the various young men also seemed quite worldly wise. Despite the best efforts of the ladies concerned, not a single one of them fell prey to either Mrs Frapschott-Marsh or Mrs Ripley.

Anyway, now that we have Aunt Enid suitably drained off into the National Grid and you have had time to recover I wonder if I might suggest another outing?

As you may be aware, my member Miss Heathlicott is fast approaching her centenary and it is our view that we should mark the occasion. She is, sadly, rather frail and has not been able to attend many functions since she was invalidated by the corporation dustcart fifteen years ago and accommodated by the St. Laithwaites Hospice.

I am currently of the opinion that the Natural History Museum may be a reasonably safe bet – accommodating several exhibitions of educational interest, plus a smart café and a library. Would you and your ladies care to join us?

  • The Joy of Drip-Drying

In clement weather, peg your laundry on the clothes-line rather than using the electric dryer. Drip-drying in this fashion will not only save money but also saves wear on clothes, towels, sheets and – it transpires – poodles.
